Sofia's Birthday.
It feels like I've been here for weeks not days! We've done so much already.
I really couldn't imagine actually living here though. It's miles apart from my life not just geographically but in every little thing.
This is a world where dogs chase the small horses which then run around the front lawn. One of the girls drinks the milk from one of the horse. Spiders the size of my foot creep up on you while you're having afternoon tea. Where Christmas is about decorating each other, laughing and crackers, presents being the after thought. Although when the presents are being distributed they're immediately followed by a kiss. The most obvious of all things that is different is in this world the animals are just as important and involved in life as the people. Can you imagine living with more horses on your front lawn than people in your house?
The most amazing thing I've heard so far is on a trip into town we got out the car and the keys were left in the ignition, because of course how inconciderate would it be if someone needed to move your car. Now that is a world I would like to live in.
As different and amazing as this place may be and all the things I get surprised by even when I know they're there I have to say one thing. One thing it doesn't have is Home. I don't think I could ever feel completely content here. As much as some love the emptiness, peace and quiet. There is a certain magic in the hussle and bussle of city life. I'd rather be lonely surrounded by people than no one.

Thursday 25th December 2008.
Mom's Birthday.
Merry Christmas.
Although I think this is as far away from Christmas as you can get. For the first time in my whole life I've woken up and forgotten it was Christmas day. I think for them it's just another hot day in a long line of them with a party at the end of it.
Yesterday when we arrived everyone was kissy kissy, but all very lovely. The family we're staying with have give girls, all of whom look very a like and yet different also. Imagine the Waltons and you've got it. We're staying at their house - Tomasa, but we went to visit my step-dad's uncle (their grandfather) who lives down the track at Miramonte.
Here life seems to revolve around drinking tea and sleeping. In true latino fashion I even had a siesta yesterday afternoon. Everything is easy and laid back so far. Living here seems to be around your body clock, not the one you wear on your wrist.
Anyway, I'm in Argentina, it's boiling hot and it's Chirstmas day! I'm off outside now.

Girl in a different world.
24th December.
At the moment I'm sitting in the back of an air conditioned car, a little sleepy from the twenty seven hour journey, but quite comfortable nevertheless. Looking out of either window all I can see is an ocean of fields framed with trees made up of a contrasting green compared to the burnt grass. Every few miles there will be a collection of cattle all trying to get shade from each other and yet never quite content. It really isn't surprising though because it's 31'c outside... I'm a little apprehensive about getting out of the car.
Driving the car is my step-dad's uncle who must be about eighty years old, and the most daring boy racer I've ever met. Although I do feel safe - after all he's had sixty years experience and driving dangerously. People are driving their motorbikes along Route 3 (the longest road in the world) in just t-shirts and shorts, completely vulnerable to everybody's dangerously safe driving. Does that make them crazy or brave? Neither I think. They'd probably think of us as utterly ridiculously overreacting.
We're nearly at our final destination twenty seven hours later! So I'll update at my next opportunity.
